If you have to leave

  • Take your pets with you.
  • Many shelters and hotels don't take pets. Find pet-friendly places before you need them.
  • Set up a buddy system with someone who can care for your pets if you can't.
  • Get pets used to the carrier: leave it open with treats and familiar bedding.
  • Bring pets indoors at the first sign of a storm.

Easy to forget

  • The photo of you with your pet.
  • A second leash, and records saved on your phone as well as on paper.
